Volunteers Recognized

After hosting their Annual General Meeting the Lamont & District Agricultural Society hosted their annual Volunteer Appreciation dinner at the meeting room on December 7, 2019.

The dinner was packed with over 70 volunteers joining in the evening festivities that included a delicious catered meal by Elk Island Catering. With the generous donations by sponsors including Lamont County, Town of Lamont, Polywest, Peavy Mart, UFA, Bull Riders of Canada, RM Promotions, and Hrehorets Bus Services, each volunteer was able to take home a door prize.

Two awards were given out to Volunteer of the Year, and Junior Volunteer of the Year to recognize volunteers who exhibit a positive attitude towards all their tasks, assist with major events as well as the day to day tasks of maintaining the rodeo grounds and are positive ambassadors for the society to the community.

Bonnie Letwin was the recipient of the Volunteer of the Year award due to her contributions through out the year, including selling tables for the Jimmy the Janitor fundraiser, serving lunch for the Grazing School for Women, and coordinating the volunteers at the rodeo.

Braydon Nimchuk was awarded the Junior Volunteer of the Year to recognize his hours spent cutting and trimming grass through out the summer, assisting with event set ups and being on call for the rodeo to bring water for the livestock on short notice.

During the evening volunteers had a chance to socialize with each other and build new relationships. “Every volunteer is a valued part of our organization, and we appreciate all the time they give to us to help build our community.” stated Rebecca Joseph, organizer for the event. An estimated 2,250 volunteer hours were spent planning and hosting events as well as helping other organizations in the community.
