While exploring potential partnership opportunities in June 2019 with the Town of Lamont, the discussion was brought forward about offering a parade during the Summer Sizzler Rodeo. With the 2019 event only weeks away, it was tabled for further discussion and consideration.
Traditionally, the parade was held during the rodeo & fair when it was hosted in the Town of Lamont, after the rodeo was relocated in 2014 the parade was hosted during the Perogy Festival in June.
In 2019, the Perogy Festival volunteer committee decided to cancel the event due to low commitment and volunteer burn out. After the Summer Sizzler Rodeo, our committee heard feedback that residents were missing the parade as it is a community builder and asked if we would consider helping to start it again.
After hearing this feedback, the rodeo committee discussed putting a proposal forward to the Town that included bringing back the parade to the rodeo weekend. It was a strong feeling that parades offer community building and general comradery to our small town, and we felt it was important to preserve that.
The committee wrote a proposal for the Town to be the title sponsor of the parade, through assisting with administration of entries, closing roads, traffic control, selecting judges & categories, as well as a $1,000 monetary donation to assist with marketing and awards.
Town council invited us to be a delegation at their October 22 meeting, and with great enthusiasm approved the proposal for 2020.
Keep an eye out as details become available for the parade route and entry information, and mark your calendar for July 11 & 12!
